UIUC Library Closures Proposal *Open Meeting Friday April 3rd*

New Service Models for the Library System.

The University Library is in the process of reviewing the library facilities and services on the Urbana campus. Several significant changes are being proposed, especially with the science libraries. The goal is to consolidate the smaller branch libraries into the larger units: Grainger Engineering Library for the physical sciences and the Funk ACES Library for the Life Sciences.

While the proposal does not directly affect the Institute libraries, the plan does call for the closing of several libraries, including Biology, Geology, and the Physics/Astronomy Libraries to start with.

The proposal for the Science Libraries is located here:
http://www.library.uiuc.edu/nsm/lsd/actionplan.html

There will be an open meeting specifically for the science libraries this Friday, April 3, from 8-9am in the Grainger Engineering Library. All are invited to share their comments.

If you can’t attend please read the above proposal for the Science Libraries and send in your comments.
