Living Downstream Documentary Showing October 16

The documentary Living Downstream will be shown Saturday, October 16, 7:00 p.m. at the Art Theater. The film includes several scenes from Central Illinois.

"Living Downstream is an eloquent and cinematic feature-length documentary based on the acclaimed book by ecologist and cancer survivor Sandra Steingraber, Ph.D. This film follows Sandra for one pivotal year as she travels across North America breaking the silence about cancer and its environmental links. But Sandra is not the only one on a journey. The film also follows two chemicals as they migrate to some of the most beautiful places in North America, exploring how they enter our bodies and how scientists believe they may be causing cancer. In a powerful interplay between Sandra's private journey and the scientific evidence she presents to the public, Living Downstream reminds us of the intimate connection between the health of our bodies and the health of our air, land and water. Our environment is within us."

Sandra Steingraber is an internationally recognized authority on the environmental links to cancer and reproductive health. Visit www.livingdownstream.com to read Sandra's weekly essays, containing timely insights and analysis on environmental health issues.

Her book, Living Downstream: an ecologist looks at cancer and the environment, is available in the Illinois Natural History Survey and Undergraduate libraries, call number 616.994071 ST35L.
